Academy of Medical Science Professorship Scheme.
The Academy of Medical Sciences is delighted to announce the inaugural call for applications to its Professorship Scheme. Working in partnership with UK Higher Education Institutions, we will be providing an attractive package of support to biomedical and healthcare researchers taking up their first full Professorship. Deadline 17 May 2019.

NIHR Advanced Fellowship
The Advanced Fellowship is for those at a post-doctoral level and aimed at several specific points of a researcher’s career development. The fellowship is between 2 and 5 years and can be completed on full-time or part-time basis. Between 50% and 100% whole time equivalent (WTE).
Advanced Fellowships will be available with a ‘clinical academic’ option whereby clinical applicants will have the option to request up to 40% of their time be dedicated to clinical service/development which would be covered by the Fellowship. Deadline 4 June 2019.

A Digital Framework for Allied Health Professionals

“This year we have seen the NHS long term plan explicitly identify that digitally enabled care will go mainstream across the NHS to improve population health and support healthcare professionals. This is supported by the recently published Topol review recommendations, asking NHS staff to make the most of innovative technologies such as genomics, digital medicine, artificial intelligence and robotics to improve services. As allied health professions (AHPs) we have an individual and collective responsibility to play a role in the development of these digital and data capabilities, anticipating the challenges and realising the benefits.

Enabling AHPs to use information and technology is therefore one of 4 priorities in AHPs into Action. A Digital Framework for Allied Health Professionals – Key foundations for future clinical practice supports local services and AHPs to make that happen and works towards services that are both paper-free at the point of care and connected to other services and systems.

I would encourage you to share, discuss and use this framework with your members and networks. Together we can ensure we deliver digital and data enabled AHP services for the benefit of citizens and the wider health and care system.”

E-Learning, Public Health and Returning to Work

The new Work and Health e-learning programme, developed by Public Health England and Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare, helps healthcare professionals to recognise the value in talking to patients about work.

The e-learning will support them to make brief interventions such as discussing the health benefits of work with patients, talking about return to work and advising on adjustments at work.

Good work is crucial to good health – in fact, unemployment increases the risk of early death by 63%.  Healthcare professionals can play a key role in helping patients to improve their health outcomes by remaining in or returning to work.

In recognition of the impact that work can have on our health, the Association of Medical Royal Colleges, the Royal College of Nursing and the Allied Health Professions Federation have published a Health and Work Consensus Statement for Action – this sets out a commitment to support healthcare professionals in supporting this agenda.

BAPO Strategy Event

Unfortunately this event has had to be cancelled .
Many thanks to all those who were interested in taking part.

Our profession exists in a constantly changing environment. With improvements in technology, surgery and changing health profile for our populations, rehabilitation has been revolutionised over the last 20 years and will continue to adopt new procedures and components to maximise the outcomes for our service users. BAPO has created a strategy document for our association but we should also be looking forward to the future for the profession.

What’s on the horizon in the UK and the NHS?
Do our clinicians of the future need to have different skills?
Does our training need to change to anticipate this in our undergraduate programmes and post graduate CPD?

BAPO is creating a long term strategy for the next ten years for P&O to direct work and projects to ensure our profession is ready for the future, and we need your help.
To facilitate this, we are holding an event for all members to consider how we best structure our activities in the coming years. The event will include presentations from those involved in setting strategy in health economics, rehabilitation services, technology and healthcare generally. Following the presentations, you will be invited to contribute to group discussions to consider how these may impact on our own strategy. The day will conclude with bringing together the results of those discussions to help create a draft document of what our strategy may be.

We see this as an important event in giving you, the membership, an opportunity to help steer the future of our profession.

We look forward to meeting you on the day and very much hope as many as possible will attend the event.

To do this, we keep a register of health, psychological and social work professionals who meet our standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health.

We are seeking to appoint three registrant members of our Council.

Remuneration: £12,000 annual allowance

Time requirement: Minimum of 30 days per annum

You will have experience of strategic and collective decision-making, as well as the ability to develop strong relationships and be able to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability in all of the HCPC’s activities. You will share the organisation’s central commitment to public protection.

You must be a current HCPC registrant to apply for these roles*. Full details of eligibility are set out in the candidate information pack.

Limbpower

LimbPower will be hosting the LimbPower Games at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2019.  Completed forms with payment must be returned to LimbPower by Friday 4th May 2018 to secure your place.

 

The Games are open to adults over the age of 18 with a limb impairment.  You may enter as part of a team (a minimum of five people) or as an individual.  The sports on offer include athletics, archery, badminton, climbing, cycling, cricket, football, sitting volleyball, tennis and wheelchair basketball. * Please note this programme is subject to change and will be finalised two weeks prior to the event.

 

Cost

£25 entry fee (includes packed lunch on both days & a LimbPower t-shirt).  Concessions available.

£22.50 for LimbPower members (please quote your membership number).

 

Parking
Free parking is available on-site.  Please make a note of your car registration as you may be required to register your car number plate at reception.

 

Catering

A packed lunch and water are provided for each athlete taking part in the Games.  Please note, LimbPower do not provide lunch for partners or carers, only for the participant who has paid the Event Entry Fee.  Snacks and refreshments can be purchased at the on-site café.

 

Accommodation

If required, accommodation will be available on Friday and Saturday night at the Olympic Lodge, Stoke Mandeville Stadium. You will need to book this directly with the venue and not through LimbPower. http://www.stokemandevillestadium.co.uk/accommodation/

 

Spectators

Spectators are welcome to attend the Games.  If you are bringing friends or family to support you, they need to sign the Spectator Registration Form on arrival at the event

The Scottish AHP Dementia programme delivers webinars to help clinicians and support good practice, they have invited all members of AHPFS (Allied Health Professional Federation Scotland) of which BAPO is a member, to join the National AHP Dementia WEBEX – sharing practice; connecting people, connecting support.
