Introducing Pam Coulton, BAPO Vice Chair

We are pleased to announce that Pam Coulton is the new Vice Chair of BAPO.

“I see it as an honour, a privilege, and something of a duty to play my part in BAPO, and never more so than if my role is as part of the executive committee. Having served on the EC previously, whilst also being chair of the Editorial Committee (Deja vu perhaps), I think it is important that we give something back when we have the time, the experience, and the dedication. Now is the time for me. I welcome the challenge, at what is an interesting time for all Allied Health Professionals.”

Pam graduated from the University of Salford in 2007, and since this time has held positions in the field of Orthotics, including time as Principal Orthotist within the NHS, Clinical Lead for one of the largest private providers in the NHS, and since 2011, has owned and practiced within a multi-site private orthotic clinic, as well as being the owner of the largest P&O locum agency serving England and Wales. Pam’s clinical specialism lies in the field of complex paediatrics, foot and ankle, and neuro. Pam is trained and experienced in all aspects of medicolegal and case management work. Pam is based in Lincoln but works all over the country in her own clinics, and as a locum into the NHS.

Pam has previously been a member of the BAPO Executive Committee, having served as Chair of the Editorial Committee, a position which she now holds again, and as Secretary

Pam’s work in all sectors of the profession, makes her well-placed to recognise interesting, informative, and pertinent material to share with the membership. Pam welcomes contributions for BAPO Connect from across the industry but particularly wishes to share contributions from students, technicians, and colleagues working in every P&O setting.

Congratulations to Pam for taking this vital role within the organisation.

Introducing Florence Goodwin, BAPO Secretary

BAPO would like to introduce the new BAPO Secretary, Florence Goodwin.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to get started on my new role as secretary of BAPO. I look forward to taking an active role in the governance of the association and to contribute to the steering of BAPO’s forward momentum. I am honoured for this opportunity to champion the advancement of, and innovations within, the prosthetic and orthotic profession.

I see this role as a chance for personal growth and development. Equally as important to me is the prospect of passing on my knowledge and skills to future leaders within our profession. I am committed to fostering an environment where learning is continuous and where mentorship is available to all, ensuring future generations of Prosthetists and Orthotists are equipped with the tools they need to drive our profession forward for years to come. “

We wish Florence all the best in her new role.

Introducing Gemma Cassidy, BAPO Treasurer

BAPO would like to introduce our new Treasurer, Gemma Cassidy.

“During my time on the Executive Committee I have stretched myself outside my comfort zone and acquired new skills. A key area of interest for me now, is how important financial oversight is in embedding good governance and contributing towards due diligence and strategic decision making. I undertook the financial module of the BDA leadership course last year and I was struck by how interesting the module was. Financial governance contributes towards risk assessment and is an enabler for efficiency, transparency, and accountability. It also helps to drive forward strategic objectives and outcomes and ensure value for money for our stakeholders namely our members, patients, NHS England, OETT, corporate partners, and the wider profession. I am excited about this new challenge within BAPO and would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian Adam for his work as treasurer. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that the committee members, EC, and office bearers do to ensure BAPO can run effectively. “

For those currently working in Private Practice, you may not be aware BAPO offers a Private Insurance Cover extension available exclusively to BAPO members.  This policy runs between May 1st to April 30th each year.

Last year, this cover cost £600 and we are delighted to be able to hold the cost for another year.  Please note due to the nature of the cover, it has to be purchased in a single payment and cannot be paid by Direct Debit or split payments.

This cover affords every member with a claims limit of £10M in any insurance year for Medical Malpractice, Public and Product Liability.

From April, you will be able to purchase your 2024/2025 Private Insurance Cover extension online, through your BAPO membership profile. Please note, this is only available to BAPO full members and member graduates.

Please follow these steps to activate or renew your insurance:

1. Log in to your BAPO account. Not a member? Join here

2. In the ‘Private Practice Insurance’ box on your account, click “View/Update”.

3. In the “renewing your insurance” box, click “Create Private Practice Insurance record.”

4. On the insurance record below, click “Edit.”

5. Answer the three displayed insurance questions.

6. Select your payment method – Stripe (electronic card payments) or BACS (If paying by BACS this can take 1-5 days for payments to process and certificates will be sent when payments have cleared.)

7. Once payment is confirmed, the Secretariat team will activate your insurance and your Private Practice Insurance certificate will be available via an automated email.

8. You will also be able to view and download your BAPO Private Practice Insurance certificate, the Proof of Insurance letter and the full policy document confirming your cover by logging into your member profile, navigating to “My Membership” tab and accessing the “PPI Certificates and policy details” section.
