This webinar will provide practical clinician-led perspectives on the use of the Spring Loaded brace in patients where pain, quadriceps weakness or extensor mechanism deficits limit function. An experienced orthopaedic surgeon and an orthotist will discuss how they identify appropriate patients, why they consider extension assist bracing, and where it fits alongside rehabilitation, conventional bracing and surgical management.
Using real clinical cases, the speakers will explore a range of indications for which the Spring Loaded brace has been used in practice. Cases will focus on the clinical reasoning behind brace selection, the functional problem being addressed and the outcomes observed following fitting.
Particular attention will be given to patients with patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA) and quadriceps insufficiency, including patients who struggle with activities requiring loaded knee flexion such as stairs, sit-to-stand and squatting. The session will also discuss patient selection, situations where alternative approaches may be more appropriate, and practical considerations when introducing Spring Loaded bracing into an existing orthotic, rehabilitation and surgical pathway. The objective is to give orthotists clinical perspectives on who may benefit, why the brace is prescribed, and what successful use looks like in practice.
