Leadership

BAPO have successfully obtained an educational grant from Health Education England (HEE). The intention of this funding is to implement a professional development programme to support the next generation of leaders in P&O.

The programme has been developed and is facilitated by Real Healthcare Solutions Ltd. The inaugural BAPO leadership programme was launched in November 2022. There is a cohort of 16 delegates on this year’s programme. BAPO will support this cohort with interactive sessions, online learning, and individual profiling. The group will present back to BAPO in March 2023 on a project outline that has been developed as part of the leadership programme.

To be truly effective leaders need to build a toolkit of knowledge, skills and behaviours that will set them, their teams, and their organisations up for success.

Good leadership starts with self-awareness, so at the same time leaders must develop an awareness of their strengths and weaknesses, their preferred style and approach, and their emotional triggers; and learn how to manage, mitigate and maximise these for the benefit of their teams.

Leaders are role models, and the example they set greatly impacts the organisational culture. So it’s critical that they first appreciate and then demonstrate the appropriate behaviours that build trust and promote a positive working environment – and do so authentically and consistently.

It is BAPO’s aim to develop a programme that fulfils the delegates’ leadership expectations from both an operational and strategic perspective.
