
BAPO is pleased to be hosting its final regional conference of the year at the SEC in Glasgow, where it will be co-located with the Royal College of Podiatry’s annual conference.
While both events take place at the same venue, they are independently organised and offer distinct programmes.
This co-location reflects both organisations shared commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, while maintaining clarity for delegates and exhibitors.

Keynote Speakers

Nick is a consultant orthotist and clinical lead at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. As part of his wider role, he has worked in elite sport for over 15 years. He currently looks after 7 of the 10 premiership rugby teams and has looked after the men`s England rugby team since 2018. He has worked with GB rowing and Para Rowing since 2012. He has worked with Olympic swimming, skiing, and snowboarding. He works with Premier League, Scottish Premier League, Championship and League One football teams and both Hampshire and Somerset Cricket.

Professor Cynthia Formosa PhD, MSc (Brighton) FFPM RCPS (Glasg.): Cynthia Formosa qualified as a State Registered Podiatrist from the Department of Health, Malta in February 1989. Cynthia Formosa is currently working on full-time basis as a Professor with the University of Malta and is the Head of Podiatry Department inside the Faculty of Health Sciences. Cynthia has published over 130 papers in both local and peer-reviewed international journals. She has also contributed in a number of book chapters. She has presented over 300 presentations in leading Conferences. She is also a peer-reviewer and editorial board member of a number of local and international journals.
Professor Alfred Gatt is an Associate Professor at the University of Malta and a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). After 20years
managing Podiatry Services in Malta, he focused on academia and research, especially in relation to biomechanics of the diabetic foot. He has published over 120 papers in various peer-reviewed journals and presented in leading Conferences. He is founding Chair of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta and the Diabetes Foot Research Group at the University of Malta.
His work is based on 3D motion analysis, medical thermography in diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and CADCAM manufacture of custom foot orthoses. After obtaining several grants, he is currently working on medical devices aimed at diagnosis and management of diabetic foot disease.

Dr Chantel Ostler is a consultant clinical academic physiotherapist and clinical lead for research at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust. She also works clinically at the Portsmouth Enablement Centre in prosthetic rehabilitation. She has over 20 years’ experience in the NHS as a specialist physiotherapist working with patients following lower limb loss and leads research activity within the centre. She is a member of the ISPO UK executive committee, and chair of the Amputation Rehabilitation Research Network. Her clinical academic role is in partnership with the University of Southampton where she teaches on the MSc in Amputation and Prosthetic use and acts as the clinical lead for the People Powered Prosthetic research group. She is passionate about involving patients and clinicians in research, and works hard to ensure the research she undertakes improves clinical care for our patients.
Maeve Cassidy – Enhancing Professional Engagement: The Impact of a ‘BAPO Champion’ on Membership Uptake in NHS GGC Orthotics Service.
I am currently working at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Orthotics Service. I have a strong professional interest in Quality Improvement, with a focus on enhancing service efficiency, patient outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. I am committed to implementing evidence-based practice and contributing to innovations in clinical care pathways.
Jamie Morton – Orthotics within Limb Reconstruction
I am a Senior Orthotist working in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, primarily in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I have a keen interest in Major Trauma, Limb Reconstruction and digital skills, including shape capture.

Donna Dargie – Scotland’s National Chest Wall Service: A Collaborative Model for Clinical Excellence
Donna Dargie is the Orthotic Lead for the National Chest Wall Service in NHS Scotland and an experienced paediatric orthotist. She graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2006 and started her career at IDS in Dublin. In 2010, she joined Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, where she has since worked extensively within multidisciplinary teams across a wide range of clinical areas and conditions beyond chest wall deformities. Donna is committed to collaborative working and advancing patient-centred care through innovation and service development.
Laura Barr – To scan or not to scan? The effectiveness, cost and prevalence of CAD/CAM insoles manufactured from foam-box casts vs direct scans: findings from a randomised controlled trial and cross-sectional study
Laura is an Advanced Practice Orthotist and MSK Specialist Team Lead for Orthotics at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She leads on the clinical application of CAD/CAM technologies for insole provision within the NHS GGC orthotic service, supporting the integration of digital tools into routine practice. Alongside her clinical work, Laura is actively involved in research, with a particular focus on the use and impact of CAD/CAM in orthotic care.
