Career Outreach Team

Meet the Prosthetics & Orthotics Career Outreach Team

Our Prosthetics and Orthotics Career Outreach Team is dedicated to inspiring, supporting, and guiding the next generation of professionals in this vital healthcare field. We work to raise awareness of the rewarding careers available in prosthetics and orthotics, connecting students, educators, and practitioners through outreach, education, and partnership.

Our Mission

We aim to:

  • Promote awareness of prosthetics and orthotics as dynamic and patient-focused professions.
  • Support entry pathways and educational opportunities for aspiring clinicians and technicians.
  • Collaborate with schools, universities, and employers to grow a diverse and skilled workforce.
  • Showcase real-world impact through stories, innovation, and clinical excellence.

What We Do

The team delivers career talks, workshops, and mentorship opportunities across the UK — highlighting the blend of science, engineering, and compassion that defines prosthetic and orthotic practice. We also provide tailored resources for educators and career advisors to help guide students into this unique profession.

Meet the Team

Our outreach team brings together passionate clinicians, educators, and ambassadors with experience across NHS services, academia, and professional bodies.
Each member shares a commitment to developing future talent and advancing awareness of prosthetics and orthotics as essential parts of rehabilitation and mobility care.

Lauryn Campbell

Career Outreach Lead

My motivation for working with BAPO stems from my commitment to advancing prosthetics and orthotics while raising awareness of it as a rewarding and impactful career. As an Orthotist, I’ve seen how quality care, innovation, and patient-centered approaches profoundly impact lives. I’m passionate about mentoring early career professionals and inspiring the next generation. BAPO gives me the perfect platform to support education, professional development, and help shape our field’s future. I share BAPO’s dedication to excellence, high standards, and championing our profession, and I’m excited to work together to expand the reach and recognition of prosthetics and orthotics across the UK and beyond.

    Francesca Makey

    Career Outreach Officer

I graduated in 2009 from The University of Salford with an BSc Degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics. I have worked for Blatchford since then. As a graduate I travelled around the country, but my base has always been in Sheffield. Since 2021 I have been the Lead Paediatric Orthotist for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. I have a keen interest in AFO design and am currently part of a project looking at scanning and 3D printing. My clinics are varied, but I work closely with the Neuromuscular and Orthopaedic MDT.  I also work once a week in the Ryegate Gait Lab at the review clinics.
I attend my old secondary school to help at their careers events, and I want to help recruit more students into the world of P&O.
