Thank You for Joining Us at the Final BAPO Conference of 2025

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow on Friday, 21st November 2025, for the final BAPO Conference of the year. We are delighted to share that the event reached full capacity, demonstrating the continued enthusiasm and dedication within our professional community.

This year’s conference featured an outstanding programme, including inspiring keynote speakers, a diverse range of oral presentations, and an engaging selection of poster presentations. Your participation, questions, and discussions helped make the day both insightful and memorable.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our sponsors and exhibitors. Your ongoing support makes hosting events of this scale possible, and we deeply appreciate your contribution to advancing learning, collaboration, and innovation within our field.

Best Oral Presentation, proudly sponsored by Blatchford was awarded to Dr Laura Barr for her presentation titled: To scan or not to scan? The effectiveness, cost and prevalence of CAD/CAM insoles manufactured from foam-box casts vs direct scans: findings from a randomised controlled trial and cross-sectional study. The award was presented by Beth Pitcairn, Service Excellence Manager, Blatchford. Dr Laura Barr was awarded the £200.00 for this acheivement.
Best poster presenter, proudly sponsored by Buchanan Orthotics was awarded to Aimie Holland for her poster: Sustainability in Orthotics:​ Digital Shape Capture for Ankle Foot Orthoses. Aimie had left when the award was announced and so her colleague accepted on her behalf. Aimie won the £100.00 voucher presented by Graham Dunn, Specialist Orthotist at Buchanan Orthotics.

Congratulations to STAND, Who won the best exhibition table at the final regional conference of the year. STAND received this award for their eye-catching display and engagement throughout the day.

Keynote Speakers

Nick is a consultant orthotist and clinical lead at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. As part of his wider role, he has worked in elite sport for over 15 years. He currently looks after 7 of the 10 premiership rugby teams and has looked after the men`s England rugby team since 2018. He has worked with GB rowing and Para Rowing since 2012. He has worked with Olympic swimming, skiing, and snowboarding. He works with Premier League, Scottish Premier League, Championship and League One football teams and both Hampshire and Somerset Cricket.

Professor Cynthia Formosa PhD, MSc (Brighton) FFPM RCPS (Glasg.): Cynthia Formosa qualified as a State Registered Podiatrist from the Department of Health, Malta in February 1989. Cynthia Formosa is currently working on full-time basis as a Professor with the University of Malta and is the Head of Podiatry Department inside the Faculty of Health Sciences. Cynthia has published over 130 papers in both local and peer-reviewed international journals. She has also contributed in a number of book chapters. She has presented over 300 presentations in leading Conferences. She is also a peer-reviewer and editorial board member of a number of local and international journals.


Professor Alfred Gatt is an Associate Professor at the University of Malta and a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). After 20years
managing Podiatry Services in Malta, he focused on academia and research, especially in relation to biomechanics of the diabetic foot. He has published over 120 papers in various peer-reviewed journals and presented in leading Conferences. He is founding Chair of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta and the Diabetes Foot Research Group at the University of Malta.


His work is based on 3D motion analysis, medical thermography in diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and CADCAM manufacture of custom foot orthoses. After obtaining several grants, he is currently working on medical devices aimed at diagnosis and management of diabetic foot disease.

Dr Chantel Ostler is a consultant clinical academic physiotherapist and clinical lead for research at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust. She also works clinically at the Portsmouth Enablement Centre in prosthetic rehabilitation. She has over 20 years’ experience in the NHS as a specialist physiotherapist working with patients following lower limb loss and leads research activity within the centre.  She is a member of the ISPO UK executive committee, and chair of the Amputation Rehabilitation Research Network. Her clinical academic role is in partnership with the University of Southampton where she teaches on the MSc in Amputation and Prosthetic use and acts as the clinical lead for the People Powered Prosthetic research group. She is passionate about involving patients and clinicians in research, and works hard to ensure the research she undertakes improves clinical care for our patients.


Maeve Cassidy – Enhancing Professional Engagement: The Impact of a ‘BAPO Champion’ on Membership Uptake in NHS GGC Orthotics Service.

I am currently working at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Orthotics Service. I have a strong professional interest in Quality Improvement, with a focus on enhancing service efficiency, patient outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. I am committed to implementing evidence-based practice and contributing to innovations in clinical care pathways.

Jamie Morton – Orthotics within Limb Reconstruction

I am a Senior Orthotist working in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, primarily in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I have a keen interest in Major Trauma, Limb Reconstruction and digital skills, including shape capture.

Donna Dargie – Scotland’s National Chest Wall Service: A Collaborative Model for Clinical Excellence

Donna Dargie is the Orthotic Lead for the National Chest Wall Service in NHS Scotland and an experienced paediatric orthotist. She graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2006 and started her career at IDS in Dublin. In 2010, she joined Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, where she has since worked extensively within multidisciplinary teams across a wide range of clinical areas and conditions beyond chest wall deformities. Donna is committed to collaborative working and advancing patient-centred care through innovation and service development.

Laura Barr – To scan or not to scan? The effectiveness, cost and prevalence of CAD/CAM insoles manufactured from foam-box casts vs direct scans: findings from a randomised controlled trial and cross-sectional study

Laura is an Advanced Practice Orthotist and MSK Specialist Team Lead for Orthotics at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She leads on the clinical application of CAD/CAM technologies for insole provision within the NHS GGC orthotic service, supporting the integration of digital tools into routine practice. Alongside her clinical work, Laura is actively involved in research, with a particular focus on the use and impact of CAD/CAM in orthotic care.

Nicki Allen – Sensory Reward Technology for Young People Who Tiptoe Walk
At Haptiv8, we develop innovative technology that empower clinicians to deliver more engaging, interactive, and effective movement experiences. Our wearable technology integrates sensory rewards to enhance gait rehabilitation by increasing compliance in a flexible and user-friendly way.
 
Our solutions are designed to complement clinician-led gait interventions, providing real-time feedback that helps users adjust their movements. This approach supports a user-centered model, enhancing both the effectiveness and user engagement.
Chiazoka Ezeuzo and Christabelle Asoluka- Mapping Skills Gaps and Support Needs of
Internationally Trained Prosthetists and Orthotists in UK Practice
Ezeuzo Mary Chiazokam
Orthotist at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, committed to advancing practice through education and leadership. She has collaborated with NGOs to expand clubfoot treatment, presented at BAPO, and facilitated AHP education sessions. A 2024 BAPO “Orthotist of the Year” nominee, she is currently developing strategies to support internationally trained professionals in the UK healthcare system.
 
Christabelle Asoluka
Band 6 Orthotist at South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Assistant Education & Practice Officer at BAPO. She specialises in biomechanics, digital health, and education, with experience in policy, 3D technologies, and workforce development. Her work focuses on advancing patient-centred care and driving innovation within orthotics.
 
Anushika Dayananda
HCPC-registered Prosthetist/Orthotist with over eight years’ international experience in clinical care, research, and leadership. Based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital with Opcare, she leads quality improvement projects and supports NHS orthotic services. She has presented at ISPO and BAPO, with research interests in clinician-technician collaboration, diabetic foot care, and workforce development.
Dr Beverley Durrant- P&O Workforce Transformation

Dr Beverley Durrant is an HCPC registered podiatrist and independent consultant with nearly 30 years of experience as an allied health professional. Her career spans diverse roles across NHS clinical practice, leadership, and the higher education sector, bringing a rich blend of expertise and insight to her work. 

As an accredited transformative coach, Beverley adopts a coaching mindset throughout her work that is open, curious, and client centred.
